Hello Mechanics,

I just bought a used 2000 ex500 and would like to adjust the cam chain tension. It was making a slapping sound. I took off the tensioner according to Clymer's manual 87 -2002, but mine looked different than the description in the manual. It says to turn the rod clockwise until rod sticks out 10mm. My tensioner has a rod but no slots for screwdriver to turn. I think the book is describing another vintage than my 2000. Does anybody have the tensioner adjustment steps for the 2000 model?

By the way, when I replaced the tensioner the slapping sound went away, but now it sometimes make a growling sound at idle. I think I need the proper instructions for the adjustment.
