Can I use a different gas tank (non CA spec) on my 500

I recently laid down my bike and dented the gas tank, I bought a gas tank on eBay for the exact year and color, but didn’t realize that my bike requires the California spec parts. Don’t know why, since I live in NJ and bought the bike from a guy who bought his in PA. Ive checked, the part number listed on the tank that was on my bike has the part # for CA. either way, there are 2 extra hoses coming off the front(bottom) of the tank that go somewhere, the other tank does not have these leads. Can I just install the different tank, the US and Canada spec tank? And some how close the to pipes that are on my bike and not the other?

If not any once know anyplace cheaper then www.cycle-parts.com?

if you use the cali. tank just figure out which fitting does what compared to your old tank. the new fittings are for emissions crap (charcoal canister etc) and you dont have to have them to anything. in all reality i would just get some rubber line that fits the fittings and run it down under the bike just like the existing lines do.

SERVICE MANUAL

Look in your service manual...if...all they are is vent s for a canister then you could just tie them together with one of the hoses. California has some wierd stuff...the answer is either in your service manual...or you can call Beartooth and ask for technical assistance 800-556-3098...they can also sell you a Service manual if you don' have on...they are worth EVERY penny you spend on them!
