I am going to add a cigarette lighter to my Nomad so I can run a GPS.

I am planning on just hooking it up directly to the battery posts so I can easily remove it.

For those who have done this, did you splice in a 15A fuse in the positive line?

If you don't, do you have full coverage insurance?? Because the flame job you'll be laying on will be PERMANENT. Make sure the fuse is as close to the positive terminal as possible. Because you DO NOT want four feet of large gauge hot wire going to the handlebars.
Nuff said! There's your answer, Bern.

Have you found a good, weather resistant with a tube mount? Something, preferably, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

A friend of mine hooked up a cigarette lighter to the inside of my windshield for my GPS.

Yes, it has a fuse. I got the lighter assembly at Walmart for under $10. It has a cap on it to close it off when the GPS is not plugged in.

Most boat supply stores have waterproof lighters for a reasonable price.
