Thanks for all of the advice. I know the chain needs to be warm before applying the wax. Therefore, if after cleaning the chain, would it hurt to ride a little to heat the chain up again?

i use wd-40 to clean my chain and then use chain-wax. i have never rode the bike BEFORE cleaning/lubing it and have never had problems.
as for you specific question, no it wont hurt it to go for a short ride. it will prob. be really noisey though.

I usually try to heat up my chain before I clean it. I've used wd40, which works good, but I've found that diesel works better.

I usually warm up the chain and then use the diesel to removed the gunk.

Dry the chain.

Spray chain-wax.

Let dry.
