The first thing I would recommend to anyone starting to ride is take a MSF course. I don't care if you've been riding for a year or 2 months. You'll still learn something new and besides, most insurance companies will lower your premiums.
The next step is to do some research and if you're ready down the road take a class at a racing school. Go to http://www.superbikeschool.com/us/index.shtml . Not only are they a great school but they have a ton of great info even if all you do is cruise the streets. And no, I'm not a rep. from the school.
