Hey guys n00b here, i'm a ATV guy have never been into bikes.

But i have the chance to get a '89 600 ninja engine, for $150 complete (exhaust, carbs, wiring). Here are my questions, what kind of HP do these engines put out and what was the top speed of the bikes??

thanks guys

hey dude i had one and i think hp is around 120.i know for shure top speed was 153.it would be an awsome engine for a honda pilot, dont use an odessey,i put a cbk 550 motor in one and the additional weight will beat u to death,,,,,,,trust me,but with a 550 it would do 65 in 2nd gear

Sheesh, most of you guys are wrong or just confusing this bike with a ZX-6.

-The 1989 Ninja 600R (not a ZZR600, not a ZX-6, not a ZX-6R) made 85 crank horsepower and ~70 rear wheel horsepower.
-it ran a 12.1s 1/4 mile

Bhavesh is right about both the power figures, and the 1/4 mile sounds about right as well. Some of the rest of these posters range from mildly confused to completely incoherent. For what it's worth, my bike redlined at about 133 MPH (after correcting for speedo error). Maybe it could have gone a bit quicker, but I wasn't about to risk the motor.

This sounds about right to me as well.

I wouldn't give it more than 90 horse in perfect stock tuning. And mid-130's for actualtop speed (not speedo indicated)

Just for comparison, in perfect stock tune, my 90 ZX-10 is about 125-130 hp, and 168 mph top speed (low numbers compared to todays liter-class bikes). So an 89 600r is gonna have vastly lower #'s.
