Allright guys and gals, after watching the discovery channel the past few weeks, im really interested in world of cruisers they look fun. But i know nothing about them since i have only ridden dirt or sport bikes and am used to the agressive lean forward position or the standard. I am not so sure i would feel in control of driving a lazy-boy down the street. So i need some advice if i should go for it, or stick to the sportbikes

LOL....There's just something enjoyable about driving a lazy-boy. I'm still trying to figure out how to make mine recline. :)

If there is a dealer close to you it would be helpful for you to visit one and check out the cruisers....try sitting on one....see if you like the difference. Of course it's not the same until you actually ride one....the same as if your wanting to try a sport bike....but to sum it up....it is a comfy way to enjoy seeing the country side.....and if you can keep your TV remote control handy....you'll even enjoy that lazy-boy even more. ;)

Hey Mr78,
I bought my first cruiser last fall, after owning 3 sportbikes. (CBR, GSXR, ZX7) and all I can say is try one. It puts you in a whole different frame of mind, makes you sit back and appreciate what is going on around you. You will gain a whole new respect for torque, something I never really knew about when riding a sportbike. While i would love to have a sportbike in my stable I would never give up my cruiser for one now.
So go and try one out.

It depends if you want to be part of the bike or ride on the bike :p. Only way I'd own a cruiser is if it was given to me.

But really, think of it this way. A cruiser is like riding down the road on a recliner (from your position on it) and a sport bike is how you sit when you are really getting into a video game. I just find a sport bike more exciting than a cruiser. (yes, I have riden a cruiser before) Don't buy either because one would be cooler. Buy one or the other on how you'd like to ride.

well to tell you guys the truth i like my little ninja better than my fzr for fun factor. The seat is much more comfortable and the riding position is not so intense. But the only thing that i like about the fzr is that you can make the scenery go blurry towards the top end of the revs. I wish i could find a cruiser that was comfortable, lots of low end torque(which sportbikes lack) enough screaming top end horsepower, and was comfortable. Maybe something like a V-max.

Never owned a sportbike but have been riding in the dirt and racing MX since I was 9. Most of my road experience came on dual sports (KLR 650) with a short but dissatisfying stint on a V-Star. All I can say is that with the Meanstreak I really enjoy the sports/cruiser cross and the seating position felt the best to me of ANY bike, (including sports bikes which I could not see myself spending 200-400mi days on without serious chiropractic care) I sat on. Friends who have sports bikes pushed and tried to convince me and now they are thinking about their choices for a single bike. If I was to only own one bike it would be the one I have, I can keep up with my sportbike friends through most of the twisties until they start pushing past double the speend limit and even then it's probably more me than the bike and still enjoy long cruises and the boulevard. Try out one, or a Yamaha Warrior or even their older V-Max( which still has the most go/$$ IMHO), a Victory Hammer or a VTX (not a retro version if you want a more upright drag style handle bar) Of course if I could chose a second bike it would more than likely be a BMW R 1200GS, go just about anywhere.

well it looks like my opinion matches a lot of the cruiser guys on here. i wouldn't trade my cruiser for anything, but i would love to have a sport bike to play with. i agree that you really need to take one for a ride. just find a dealer that has a used bike that you might like and take it out for a nice little ride. then, go from there....

Last year I was hooked by the whole cruiser thing. Since I was a child, in the late 60's early 70's, I loved the chopper style and think todays cruisers are some of the most beautful bikes on the road. I looked at several and was ready to buy so I took the next step and rode as many as possible. That's where things went south for me. All of my dislikes could be overcome with more and more seat time, but than decided that sticking with what I was comfortable with would make my rides more enjoyable. Especially since my wife thinks one motorcycle is definately more than enough.
I'm glad that we all don't like the same kinds of motorcycles. If they all looked and rode the same there would be nothing new to look forward too when entering your local dealer.

I'm really uncomfortable on my husband's sport-touring bike. I can't imagine riding a true sportsbike! The riding position looks like agony to me. :) I love the comforable ride on my cruiser, the low center of gravity, and the fact that I can flatfoot it. It's a lot more stable than my husband's bike, too.
