I replaced a broken speedo cable on my 1999 Vulcan 1500 Drifter. The old cable appeared to be packed with grease. I used a new Kawasaki OEM cable and the internal cable seems to have very little internal friction. Is it normal practice to pack the cables with grease or other lubricant. I asked a couple of neighbors that are auto mechanics if older direct-linkage auto speedo cables needed lubrication and they both said no.
