Yo, children of the corn....And Vulcan owners... I have a customized 95 vulcan 800 ...I'm putting a tach on it...the manufacturer says the thing will fit Vulcans with Duel Fire Ignitions...is mine a duel fire?

From a thread a few weeks ago about using an HD dual fire coil on a VN800:

Nope, they won't work. I know they are a lot less expensive but they use a three wire setup for ignition instead of the two wire that the 800 coils use, as they are single fire.

Hey there Seatime,

Were you able to verify that your '95 800 was a dual fire? I'm also looking into adding a tach on my 96 800 and cannot find a definitive answer on this.

Any other tach advise is most appreciated!

On the parts layout from bikebandit, it shows there are two coils, which should indicate that it is a single fire. In that case you can just make an adapter to come off of each coil. Use this diagram:

You can get all the parts you need at Radio Shack:
1- foot of 18 gauge wire (any color)
2- 1N4007 Diodes (Radio Shack)
2- 100 k ohm resistors
