I have a 1982 Spectre 1100cc that I changed to the Dyna Ignition and I love it. The problem is I can't get the tach to work with it. I traced the wire to the tach and sent the signal from both coils "neg side" but no response. when I go back to the factory ignition the tach works fine. Dyna sent a wire so I could get a signal from both coils "didn't help" Has anyone else had this problem? I could use some Ideas. Thanks

I have a similar engine, a 1982 GPz1100 B2 model. Looking at my factory shop manual's wiring diagram, I see a BLACK wire going from the combination voltmeter/tach(not sure if your bike has the same set up as mine)to the BLACK wire of the LEFT ignition coil.

It's probably spliced together somewhere in the harness. If you can, temporarly hook in a wire from the LEFT ignition coil BLACK wire(alligator clips work well for this) and see if the tach function comes back.

Try going to just the LEFT coil and post back.
