Empty Bud cans from the back of a pickup at 70 MPH hurt!

my visor has saved my eyes from very nasty cigarette butts many times.

someone once chunked a full can of soda out their window. i didn't realize it was full, but leaned to miss it anyway. it hit the road and exploded. now THAT would have done some damage! (was on the interstate at the time)

Am I the only one that as had a bird smack into my helmet?. Good thing it was small but still hit pretty hard.

Just another thing that you learn OTR

It is just something that you learn to watch while on the road. It's always better to be ahead of the pack than in it for lots of reasons...like cans, bags, road kill...the ones that are difficult to miss are the ones coming at you. I used to carry a grease pencil in my coat pocket for scribbling down plate numbers for the very reason. the best thing about a bike is that it can stop a LOT shorter than a car or truck can if you get into a scuffle (where they slam on their brakes) and you can change directions faster too. The ONLY reason that I carry golf balls in my pocket is for that very reason. Kind of like chaff if you will. In 30 years of riding I have only twice had to deal with unloading my golf balls...best part is having the police pull you over and then being released because the guys in the truck are to drunk to even get their story straight. Fortunately, I have never gone down with golf balls in my pockets and had them hurt me.

i've had one bounce off my windsheild then smack my visor on my helmet...poor pigeon tried to cross the interstate -.-

Uncle boB is lucky it wasn't one of his Canadian goose Friends...I think that I'd HAVE to brake. One of those would clean you off of the seat of just about anything! We miss your inputs Uncle Bob...you must spend more time with us.

i've had part of a branch fall out of a tree and clout me upside the head, didnt hurt as much as scare me half to death, (was doing 70 at the time up a hill).

Some of the guys around me use the big marballs. Over the shoulder chuck to teach rotten people a lesson.

MEAN

I have personally thought about removing the golf balls for the bright tennis balls. They would do less damage physically, but emotionally seeing a larger object would have a greater effect...at the same time, should I EVER go down (again) golf balls may be very unforgiving...?

I guess 5 days old isn't too old for another post :wink: especially since this area is about what you've learned and a number of you have illuded to how mean some automobile drivers can be.

I didn't realize it was this bad until this spring. In the last week or so I've had at least 5 cars act like they're going to hit me when I'm passing them on their left. Why do they do this? I've experienced this on both cruisers and sports bikes. I'm not being unsafe ... not track-riding on the street ... not riding their @$$, cutting them off or being rude ... I just don't feel like being behind them when they are going under the speed limit. What are they all upset about?

In the past few weeks, I've learned there are more people that don't like motorcyclist than I thought. It's sad, even before I was riding motorcycles, I always gave motorcyclists extra curtisies.

Just wave at them, and nod at them as you go by them...kill them with courtesy. What they don't understand...they may never understand...then again try to pull up on the right side of a car cruising and see if they have an LED/LCD readout and if your speedo is that far off. It could be...then again, ther e will always be those that will toss thigs out the window when you are behind them. I still believe in a grease pencil in my pocket and writing on my tank a tag number an da brief discription of the driver, and a 911 call so that they may conect you to a non-mergency number to report the incident. Ther eare quite a number of motorcycle cops that just love to give tickets for thigs like litering and unsafe lane changes and wrecklass driving...when it comes to motorcycles...

Dev4net, are you new to NC? I'm a transplant from Pittsburgh, and in my opinion the drivers around here are the worst I've ever seen, especially on the interstates. Tailgating, no turn signals, travelling across muliptle lanes to get to an exit, stopping on on ramps, you name it. It's bad enough on four wheels, but on two you have to be EXTRA careful.
