This is the first time I'm opening up my engine(trying to change the transmission gears)
I'm excited since this is pretty much the only part I haven't opened up
and I want to see what its like inside and understand
At the same time I'm very nervous because I know if I screw up, the bike is not gonna move...

can anyone tell me if I need to take the cam chain tensioner off before I open up the engine?
Is there anything I should know about before starting on it?
I'm thinking about working on it during this weekend...

I have the manual, but just want to hear some advise from experienced riders
... I have friends who are going to be helping me, but its their first time as well.

Some of my friends told me I shouldn't do it and they may be right, but there are leaks from the head gasket and some other gaskets as well, so I feel I have no choice but to open her up...

BACK AWAY from the bike! Put your hands in plain sight! DROP any wrenches on the ground!!

And listen, the "first" time, is usually the "expensive" time!!!!

GREENISBEST & ROMAD,

thanks for the warning
I went to see a professional mechanic today and they told me the same thing

I'm thinking about waiting until I get extra money to buy another used engine
and start working on it then
that way, if I mess up, I would have a spare engine to use;)

bytheway, ROMAD, I saw your en500 website!
awesome job to the bike! I also enjoy customising my en500

keep up the good work! I really enjoy looking at the work you've done on the bike;)
