I have an old Kawasaki Z650. I am in the process of building a hard tail Bobber out of it. It has no Title currently. Actually I am putting the engine on a different frame ( with a title ). I need to know the year of the engine for parts. Can anyone help me?

Engine# KZ650DE027246

Thank you in advance..

Pulled this info from KZ650.info

Model Year Engine Frame
(K)Z650-D3(SR) 1980 KZ650DE026001 ~ KZ650D-026001 ~

So looks like your motor is from a KZ 650 -D3,, Or known as the KZ650 SR

But the D3 wasn't imported into the US. Hmmmm, the number in question is the engine serial number and the Ltd--E--model also had engine serial numbers that began with KZ650DE-----. The serial number stamped into the steering head will tell the tale and is considered the actual VIN.

Could have been purchased by a military guy/gal overseas back in the day and shipped to the states during PCS. Logical possibility.
