I have just been adjusting the valve clearances on my VN 900. I was given what I think is some bogus information about the size of the factory installed shims. Someone said they're all 2.40 mm. While assuming this I made some swaps and the resulting clearance was way too large. I then took a closer look at the factory shims and saw "3 0", "4 5", "5 0", and "6 0" on each side of the center of the shims. I'm guessing that the real sizes are 2.30, 2.45, 2.50, and 2.60 respectively. Does that sound right?

I would think you're right. I wish I could remember for sure now what mine were. I do remember 2.45 for sure. But I can't remember what all of them were. Plus the vavles had already been done once before by the dealer.

Do not go by the stamp on them but measure them with a micrometer or such.
Good advice and something i always do myself but i have never found one to be wrongly marked v0v

Mind, until 2 days ago i've always bought the factory shims for every bike i've worked on :)
