FI w/choke?

Why does the mean streak have a choke when it's fuel injected? Fuel mapping must be inadequate or something. Choke and fi just don't make sense together.

re

its not really a choke, its just a fast idel knob,i seldom use mine
all the fi's have it,might come in handy on a real cold morning but nornally it should
start just fine without using it
Ain't had any cold mornings to see if the fast idle knob helps cold starts. Guess I'll just wait till Aug & the 1st freeze to find out how it works :? :?

I wondered about that too, as bushmeal did. FI with a choke??? Thanks for the explaination.

The owners manual calls it a choke, to be used on cold mornings and high altitudes. Since we have neither here, I haven't used it but the bike idles slow on start up. About 600-700. Never hits a fast ide. Maybe I need to wait for one of those really cold mornings, when it hits 40. :D

Idles right at 950 when it's fully warmed up.
re

What do they mean by "high altitudes" :?: :?: :?: We live above 6,000 feet and I've yet to use it. Asked the dealer & they just shruged & said I should never need it unless it's extremly cold out.

Kawasaki. Came with the bike....a Kawazuki 1600 Marauder.
I've had my 1600 for almost a year now and I've only used the "choke" last Fall when it was 45 - 55 degree here in good 'ol Wisconsin. If I didn't use it - it would kill right after starting. This spring and early summer I haven't touched it and it's been fine.

And, since it's not really a choke - you can get the same effect by just giving it a little throttle when you start it and it beats leaning over and trying to find that darn little knob!

Welcome to Wisconsin.... where cold mornings are a way of life.

Yeah, Freedom, a little throttle works. If you have a throttle lock, that is way better than the little "choke" button.
