K&N makes the individual pod filters that you are speaking of, as well as the drop in filter that you also referred to. Are you planning to rejet the carburetors or have they possibly been rejetted already? A bone-stock bike will not run well with K&N filters. Running these filters without tweaking your carbs will drastically lean out your bike's air to fuel ratio-which isn't a good thing.
Have you heard a bike with the pods setup? It's totally awesome. The filters make a very agressive sound as you romp on the throttle. If I were to rejet my Ninja 500, I'd probably choose the pods over the drop-in filter.
