does anyone know what this pump is for? It's on a mule right now and I know it's wrong...

Does it have elect. wires running to it? Looks more like a generic in line filter than a pump to me?

Most of the fuel pumps I've seen have a larger fuel line going in than the one going out. I agree, it looks to me to be fuel filter.

If no wires going to it, it must be a filter.

it does have wires and it actually pumps gas I keep running in to one thing after another. Today I discovered a bent push rod. This thing has had a bad home in its life...

There are some Kawasaki sports bikes that have a low pressure fuel pump, maybe that's what we are seeing?

The pump in the pic looks very similar to a generic one I put on a neighbor's mule. It was ~$45 versus the ~$220 for a kawasaki version so we gave it a try and it has been working great. We thought we might have to run a separate 12V line to it to make it run but it does fine with the fuel pump relay in the loop. Sounds like the previous owner of your mule had taken many shortcuts to keep it running and you get to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
