Well its a sad thing to do...

I was on a group ride today. This was a newbie friendly group ride, and as such out pace was the speed limmit. I was the 2nd rider in the pack (since I was one of the ones that was familiar with the route).

I was in a right hand turn when out of nowhere a dog comes running across the rd. I swerved to avoid this medium sized dog, but my front end slid, slid so much that I could not catch it (even though I nocied it and tried to correct it)... I low sided, I let go of the bike, slid across the pavement about 40 feet or so, and ended up on the other side of the road at the embankment where I hit it and started spinning. out of the corner of my eye I saw the back weel of my bike lift up...

I then tumbeled to a stop. I then checked myself, to make sure I was ok...

I sat up and the other people from the ride had now stopped and where running up to me... I lifted my thumbs telling them I was allright. Soon after I started mooving, arms, legs, neck, back... everything was ok. Infact hours after the crash, I am only sore on my back.

I had crashed going 40 mph on a 40mph rd... I think it was because of an oil spot, and high pressure on the front tire that caused me to fall. I didn't think about my set up, and well I gess I was riding too fast with the set up I had and the conditions of the road.

now my bike is in pretty bad shape. unridable. with important parts bent.

I gess I am happy cause I am still walking. I was wearing a riding jacket, pants, boots gloves and a full face helmet. the gear did its job. I don't even need a band aid!

thanks guys, I am really bummed cause I can't afford to the fix the bike. If I buy another vehicle I would have to finance it like 100%! seeing how it is towards winter I gess I will buy my first car.

and yes I have to buy cause I can't pay to fix my bike! up until now my bike was the only vehicle I had operated (that and my old ex 500) and I am not quite sure how I feel about buying a car.. even if it is going to be wet and rainy! I don't mind riding in the rain..

my understading is that comprehensive would only cover if I am not on the bike.

If I am on the bike then it is collission insurance (which I do not have).

anyone here care to shed light on this matter?

Comprehensive and collision insurance go hand-in-hand. I don't think you can buy one without the other. It's not that much more expensive (well, but I'm a female, so maybe it is for guys) and will cover you no matter what happens.

you can buy comprehensive w/o colission but you can't buy colission w/o comprehensive... its weird.

getting colission on mine was almost double if not more than what I pay with comprehensive.

Oh man...sorry to hear the news. Glad you're okay though. You'll be riding again sooner or later.

Just how bad is your bike? Too much busted to repair?

I recommend checking with your insurance company too. They might surprise you.

im sorry to hear about your accident, but happy nothing happened to you.

I am an insurance agent and if i am correct..you are covered under comprehensive...comp covers all risk including theft...the only thing it does not cover is collision....collision when there is another vehicle involved...which in this case it was not a vehicle..it was an animal and you did not cause it...therefore you are covered.

Comprehensive also covers when a vehicle crashes into you and leaves the scene....hit and run.

Good luck and I hope you get motorcycle back soon!

Glad you are still here talking to us in this forum. As for your bike damages, insurance 'should' be able to take care of you. The repair can easily go up to thousands of dollars. Good Luck and heal well. Regards.
