just put on a new set of iso-grips with throttle boss today
makes a big difference-isolates some of the vibes from the bars and feels
much more comfortable than the leather sleeves i had over the stock grips
easy to install-took about 20 minutes

also got around to mounting the chrome cover for the ugly black horn
i've had it for some time and forgot i had it :roll:
its a clamshell chrome cover for a 93 and up sportster that covers the horn
and adds a nice chunk of chrome to that black area-looks great :wink:
installs in 5 minutes

Did you put the cover on the Vulcan or Sportster? Got a part number handy? Might be a lot better than that chrome ring thing Kawa sells and gets big $ for.

and yes-it went on the vulcan

after i torn it apart i naturally threw it away :roll: but just drop by h/d
and get the cover for a 93 and up sportster (XL) its really the only one
that looks like it will fit (shaped like the horn itself) i paid 15 bucks for it
sandwich the cover between the horn and the exsisting bracket and
put the nut back on - you may have to bend the bracket just a tad for the cover to clear the fast idle knob - and its a big cover and fills in that spot

I read here, I believe, that HD sells an air pump for shocks that is of good quality, and I will add one of these horn covers to the basket.

Know of any other HD goodies that will fit a Meanie/1600 Marauder? :wink:

I bought one of the air pums from the Harley shop ($39.95) and it is a really neat very well made pump, wors great on my air shocks on my 1500 Classic FI. These pumps are about the same price as the ones sold by Kawa & some aftermarket ones that I saw online but they were just basically syringes with a guage and valve. You will be vey pleased with the one H.D. sells.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to get one from HD. I looked at others on the web and they were more money and somewhat cheap looking. I read the Kawasaki one was plastic. I see that they have removed them from buykawasaki, at least for the 1600 Meanie.

Looking forward to getting it. A bicycle pump just didn't cut it. :lol:

How often do you add air to your shocks?

And what settings are they at?

Is there a link where I can read up on this?
Let's say I am a heavy person.. and hit bumps.. or I am thin & drive on smooth lanes.. something to guide my choices..

I use a Progressive pump from Progressive shock co., about $40. I run 20 lbs on the Nomad and the shocks set at #2 for 2 up riding and #1 for single. I weigh in at 200 plus another 175 with lil lady. Mean Streak set up for solo riding with air at 15 lbs and shocks set at #1 and bump up to #2 for winding roads. The settings are subjective because everyone rides differently.

Take a look at your owners maual. There is a guide for set up in there. It is a good base line to work from and then you can tweak to your liking.

can't remember if the 1500 horn is the same style :roll:

run down to the dealer and check the 2 horns - if they are the same
style horn i'm sure it'll work-may have to tweak the stock bracket a little :wink:

i'm thinking about changing the horn all together-
that factory horn is a toy :lol:
thinking about a marine horn in polished stainless that is much,much louder
smaller and looks better too :wink:

I did find the chrome shell horn cover at my local Harley dealership. Not sure where you found one for $15. The dealer quoted me a price of $42 for the part. When I mentioned that I thought it might be about $15 he kind of laughed and uttered something to the effect of "we have no parts for a harley that would be as low as $15"!!!
