My helmet, Fulmer AFM Modus, is now 6 moths old and has 6000 miles of ride/wear time. Over the last couple weeks it has started to feel like someone is giving me double fisted noogies on top of my head. It feels like the padding has compressed and the helmet is fitting a little looser than before allowing it rub my head. I have bought a helmet liner and it helps a little.

So my question is, is this nomal and can I do anything about it? Or, should I start looking for a new helmet?

Well, the easy answer would be "new helmet", but I'm not really sure. Fulmer makes a good lid, so I'm surprised the padding would be breaking down so quickly. I bought an HJC about 2 years ago and it's still fine for me, despite my son sticking his fat head in it all the time! It is slightly looser than it was when I first bought it, but still fits fine and does not move around much.

Maybe you should try one size smaller to begin with, and then with compression, will still be a good fit?????

It's normal for a helmet to loosen up a little but that's why you buy it slightly too tight.

Bottom line, if the helmet doesn't feel right, buy a new one. Maybe try a different brand or size, a helmet should last much longer than that.

Your head could be shrinking?

My HJC FF was very tight on my cheek bones when new but I chew gum while I'm riding and it is now comfortable tight after 500 miles.

I think that it's normal. After having my helmet over a year it does seem to be slightly looser. Or maybe it doesn't bother me as much.

Could not even get the medium lid over my head. The XL felt good and the L was tight. So I went with the L for the very reasons you all have mentioned. I just find it odd that it would fit fine for 5500 miles and then over a period of 2 weeks (500 miles) start causing problems.

I have emailed Fulmer concerning this and will see if and how they respond.

Mike, I hope they deal with you fairly. My son has a nice Fulmer he really likes.

I tried to order a blue mirror shield from them and found out they only sale to dealers. So I got my local Kawi dealer to order the shield from Fulmer 2 weeks before Christmas and still don't have it.

When I get a haircut, mine is a little loose. I just wear a bandana around my head.

Thanks all for your comments. I'll let you know how it works out with Fulmer. For now, I'll just keep wearing my helmet liner and let my hair grow.

IMHO helmets that are even just a little loose (move while riding) create stress on your neck and shoulders which in turn becomes driver fatigue.
