Full face all the time. It's the only helmet that offers adequate protection. Some people are fine with the protection of a half-helmet, but it's been shown that you are most likely to be injured in the jaw and a full face is the only helmet that can protect you there. I feel that if you are wearing just a skullcap, you might as well not bother with a helmet.

Brands don't really matter in terms of protection as long as the helmet is DOT or SNELL approved. Different helmets will have different shapes (it is really important to try some on before buying) and more advanced cooling/features, but the protection is about the same despite price differences.

This thread could be trouble, but I'll echo the other folks. Fullface is the only way to go if you value your head. Something like 20% of impacts to the head happen in the face/chin area which is only covered by a FF. I have a scorpion and like it pretty well and it was fairly cheap.

i was wanting a ff but aholes here mess with ya for wearinga ff on a cruiser..well yesterday i saw three guys wearing them so maybe the trend is going that way.i tried to be "cool" and bought a 1/2 when i got the bike...first ride i realized it was a waste of money..almost 0 protection and the wind noise was aweful.i have been scanning the net for a ff helmet but i really wanna try one on before i buy and there aren't many places around here with much selection. i have been to 5 places locally in southeast louisiana and they are either almost sold out because of christmas or just never had much of a selection anyway.

so i figured with all the riders here and their different styles and opinions i might get some ideas.

i rally don't wanna get into a no argument about 1/2 vs ff. just tell me me what ya like and why..please

Buy a full face and wear it. I once asked a sage "If CT doesn't have a helmet law, why do you wear one?" Dad replied "Because it's MY head that will get wrapped around a tree"

Try being the only guy at an HD dealership that wears one. Even though TWO people have had traumatic brain injuries.

Bucking the Darwinian trend since 1968.

I personally don't give a **** what other people think, so I would wear a ff b/c I have a family that loves me. I ride a sportbike so of course ff is more "accepted" but I wouldn't care either way. I wear jacket with armor, pants with armor, boots, gloves and ff even if it's 90+ degrees out. This might help persuade you as well

First, I am one of the coolest guys in the world so I don't have to worry about what other people think of my choices. Second I am **** good looking and want to stay that way. I know that I will be an exemplary rider but it's the other crazies on the road I must contend with, my choice FF.

Before advise I can give it go and try them on. People have different shaped heads and some brands fit better than others for YOUR head shape. Get the one you feel comfortable in.
Full face, half or none at all, it is your choice but all I can say is it is your head. If you have a family it is their life and their future as well that you have to consider. Do you see pro-football without protective gear ?
Life is one big casino all the way. Just how you choose to bet and how much..you decide.

Started riding in Jan.04. Never even thought of riding without my FF.

Frankly I didn't really think through the whole safety aspect of it -I just bloody well don't like wind in my eyes, bugs hitting my face, rain on my eyeglasses, etc.

Then you start reading studing the safety aspect and its a slam dunkola ;)

I ride the most beautiful cruiser on the road today -Nomad of course, and since nobody can take their eyes of the bike who cares what the rider looks like 8)

flat black HJC. All the other guys wear half helmets but I just can't get myself too. I am to the point that a ff helmet is more comfortable for me.

Well, I have an HJC CL-15 in cherry red to match the bike. I'm seriously considering getting a safety orange helmet for my next one. HJC is a decent middle of the road brand. But like I said, each helmet and manufacturer will have a different shaped mold they use for their helmets, from round to pointy to flat. You really have to try stuff on.

Take a look at NewEnough. They have a great return policy and could probably help you out by shipping numerous helmets to try on. Narrow it down to roughly the correct size and get a couple different brands. It'll cost you a bit with the shipping, but worth it getting a properly fitted helmet.

Just a quick comment. DOT testing is random and a manufacturer need only present evidence that the helmet qualifies. Snell tests every helmet model and style that gets its approval. DOT approves half helmets, Snell only recently began approving 3/4 helmets, they do not approve any half helmets.

What you wear is your choice. Nuff said.

I bought a Scorpion FF helmet and love it. This was after I bought a Fulmer FF and determined it was too small and didn't fit my head as well as the Scorpion. Waste of money, but I'm more comfortable now. I wore a 3/4 last summer (first summer of riding), so I haven't decided if I'll switch to the FF during the hot months or not.

I agree with others. Don't worry about what others think of your gear.

I wear a Bell Drifter ( half ) helmet. There's no helmet law in AZ. The wife told me it's her law. I'm thinking about a FF though. The half helmet feels like it's going to come off your head and just about chokes you at high speeds.
What's a FF like on a cruiser? Or even a 3/4 ?

I wear a fullface helmet. I have had enough close calls riding to where I don't care how I look on the bike.
I wear full gear, overpants, etc. and a puke green Icon vest too.
If I could I would put red clown hair and a big red nose on my helmet, LOL.
The point is to ride (and mitigate the risk) - it does not matter what others think.
