i live in florida and is legal to ride without a helmet as long as the rider has health insurance. I ve noticed that about 80% of people i ve seen that ride cruisers, at least in south florida, dont use helmets. i know helmet laws vary from state to state. Myself personally dont use a helmet when i ride my vulcan. I do use a helmet everytime i ride my ninja since its a sportbike.

Besides the freedom to choose to wear or not to wear. I cannot understand how those that do not wear can stand the eyes watering with the windpressure and all that noise from the wind.............anyway.........I always wear a helmet as a minimum protection for the noggin and the protection from the elements it provides. Half shell most of the time, still better than none IMHO.

I asked my bro that question. He and I use to ride without when we first started. He says if there wasn't a law he still would cause it saved his scull a few times now. We both ride cruisers and sport bikes...with a helmet, law or no law.

We have a helmet law here in missouri. That being said, I think I would wear mine anyway. I did a lot of dirt riding in my younger days and took enough falls to prove to me that a helmet is a good thing to have.

Ive said it here b4, and It will always be my answer
I wear one for 5 reasons
My Wife
and my 4 kids

I have two. A FF and a half helmet. I rarely use the half helmet.
I like the protection from the elements I get with the FF

The worst "wreck" I ever had was backing the 900 down the driveway and down I went. I smacked my head but hard. Thanks goodness I had on a lid. So in my book, from now on, there is no such thing as a short trip.

Strange I have seen this alot with riders, and it seems odd to me. Same head same road, type of bike is not going to make that much difference when you go down - you go down. PA we have the freedom to choose so each his/her own.

Personally I rode dirt bikes when younger, so helmet, armor, gloves, boots all seem natural. I wear a FF , keeps the wind and noise down.

Last year I rode mostly without, but this year I have decided to wear one all the time. I wore a 3/4 when it was cold out, and now that it is hot out, I am wearing a 1/2 helmet

Boy, I can relate to that. I think I was the "head helmet tester" in my youth. If I wasn't hitting something, my bike was hitting me. I would go through a helmet a season racing motocross and at least one every two years when I moved on to desert racing. My helmets always look pretty beat up.

I also live in CA and have no option of without, but even if I did have the option of with out I still would always ride with one. I have see the tragic out come first hand of some one not wearing one before the mandatory law came into effect and the out come of him and his bike hitting the back end of a parked truck was a some thing that will never leave me as long as I live. May he rest in peace.
