My friend's 500R idles a bit low, about 1000. Mine (an 01) idles at 1500, which I think is what I read was normal. How do we adjust his? I have not gotten a chance to get a shop manual for our bike as we only have them both for about 3 weeks. Thanks in advance. I love this forum!

They should both idle between 1100-1300 rpm

and the idle adjustment is under the carbs, almost halfway between them but more of the lefthand side of the bike, its a nob that is kinda hard to turn so you'll have to fiddle with it. Do it with the bike on (wear gloves) and you'll catch on quickly.

idle setting ninja 500

thanks for the reply but i am not so sure that i will figure it out

and i do not think that it is the easiest think to do; i played with it
while the engine was off - who knows how far off it is now. i did not
touch anything else but the idle knob. the bike was running extremely
well before; i just decided that it would be easier to ride with the idle up
a bit and the owner's manual made it sound like a snap. unforunately
i decided to turn it with the engine off. now in order to play
with it. i need to keep one hand on the throttle
while the other is fooling around under the carbs.

how far does one go to make a 200 rpm difference? my question stands:
do i turn c-cl. or cl. to increase the rpm? thanks
