Hello all, I've recently bought my first bike, a 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic. It started fine the first couple of days after I bought it but subsequently took a dump on me while testing it out in my neighborhood. I know it's either a fuel/carburetor issue or an electrical. I've gone over everything I could think of electrical wise and it still won't turn over. I'm starting to suspect a dirty carburetor or some kind of vacuum leak from carb to intake. The carb is not original to the bike, I know this solely because the carb will not sit correctly in between the heads to match up to the boot. The carb sits about an inch and a half higher than it should. My question is if the carb is gunked up from bad gas and deposits should I clean it and try to find a fitting and pipe to seal it properly or invest in the properly sized carburetor to have the proper fit and if so what size carburetor am I looking for?

Welcome to the Forum.
Lets clear up my first issue with your post ;)
When someone states their Bike wont turn over that indicates to us that when you have the Ignition on, In Neutral, Kill switch set to run and you press the start button absolutely nothing happens as in the Motor does not turn over.
Is the above correct ?
OR
All of the above but the Motor DOES turn over but the Engine does NOT start and run ?

Aside from that opening salvo the first thing I would address is the incorrectly fitting Carb by getting a replacement oem one, E-Bay or similar maybe a good place to start but you would be as well to refurb whatever you get second hand before fitting.

Make sure the fitment issue is not down to the wrong inlet rubber or even the wrong Carb..
