I have a 1985 zx600a that my brother and i are trying to get going for my dad. It needs a starter and i was wondering if anybody knows FOR SURE what different years of the ninja's starters would work for this bike.

All use the same starter. Part # 21163-1072 which was superseded by 21163-1242. Another option would be to take the existing starter to a rebuild shop. In most cases they can be rebuilt to "like new" condition for less than the cost of a new one.
