I have a 1980 KE100 that I bought and re-built for my son. In the last 2 months it has had... a new Wiseco piston/rings, OEM gaskets, all new OEM crank seals including the O-rings in the right engine cover area, BRAND NEW OEM Mikuni carb (the 1980 had the odd carb, hard to get parts for it). All new ignition parts including a stator re-wind, new points/condenser, timing set dead nuts etc.

For the last 2 weeks it has been running like new, starting 1 kick, idling perfect etc. Then last week it died in the yard, the RF head nut came loose due to the stud being stripped. I bought new studs/nuts and a new head gasket. Would only sputter, idle shortly then die. Compression was 150psi in 3 kicks.

Yesterday I went through it all again, new OEM base/head gaskets, new rotary valve, replaced all the o-rings again (crank seals are new and still looked good), everything looked like new still. Now it will barely run, dies after a few seconds, not much better than before? Carb is new/clean, plug is always wet, compression is 150, good spark?


What could have been damaged when the head nut came loose? Or did something else happen that caused the head nut failure? I am at a loss! PLEASE HELP!

Do a kick when dark to make sure plug wire is NOT doing the arching grounding issue. Also check the pilot jet and take it out to make sure it is NOT plugged also. Fuel Petcock also can get moisture in the bowl and or Crub and block flow.
