I just bought a KLX110 that smokes pretty bad. It starts and runs very very good, just a lot of smoke coming out of the tail pipe. When you put your hand up to the exhaust you get a black residue when you goose the throttle. I have drained and replaced the oil and drain the gas tank and carburetor (in case previous owners put two stroke in the gas on accident. My son and daughter ride it around and it runs absolutely perfect. Very powerful for them. Was wondering if there is a list of things I should start checking. The bike starts on the very first kick.

Is it an easy fix or would I be better off taking it to the shop? Is there anything else that it could be if the bike runs great like it does? Also I read somewhere that smoke when accelerating could be the rings instead. When it Idles it does smoke some but it gets really bad when you accelerate.

if you have some mechanical skills you could do it but if your gonna do the valve seals then you will have the head off i would go ahead and have a new piston and rings put in it and have the cylinder honed that way you KNOW everything in the top end is good to go just my .02
