Yeah no to Honda for me...Done with them...I am trying to find an a KX 125 but they are far in between.
Hey, if you want to take a *long* road trip, I will sell you mine. I am wanting to upgrade to a 250.
Here in Cali...The Green sticker bike allows you to run your dirtbike all year round...Red sticker means you can only ride from November to April...Which means that Green is the way to gooooo...Smal trail bikes like the TTR 125 LE I got my wife is a Green...Newer 2 strokes and 4 strokes depending on emissions seem to be mostly Red...That is why I have to buy an older bike to get green which is not a problem since I know a few people who can always tool on my bike if need be.
One of my buddies said to start on a 250 as well...So the party is spit. 2 say 125 and 2 say 250..Decisions. No worries...Always been a do at my pace learner and SAFE....Not out to show off or impress others...I am out to learn and have fun.
The 125 is lighter, doesn't push the front end as much, and probably a better first round. It also is a better teacher,as it takes a bit more work to keep it in the powerband.
They also do not seem to give "arm pump" as bad as a 250 when learning. (people hold onto the bars too tight when intimidated ). 125's are easy to buy and sell. You will know what you want after a spell on a 125(some prefer to keep one around forever)

...again,only my opinion.

Sound advice...Again my focus is a little on power, but more on being able to learn at a pace that is assuring yet fun...I do not want to wind it out and just go flying.
Whatever you do, don't under estimate the new 250 lites. They have some power and being 4 stroke...less maintenance and enough power and torque to pull you and then some.

I'm not doubting you on the street, but dirt is a different world.
no, its the exact opposite, the 4 strokes are starting to get power yes. But they are alot more maintnence becuase they have more than twice as many parts as any 2 stroke. they have lots of tourque, but they dont enjoy getting maxxed out.

I definitely want a two stroke...The bike purchase has to wait another two weeks since the the fridge went out and had to buy a new one for $2300...That was my bike money...Oh well home service warranty will fix other fridge meaning I will have one in the garage like I have always wanted...Tons of YZ 250s out here...Hardly any KX...Most likely more people keep them longer probably.
^I wish there were tons of YZ250's for sale here! I've been looking for one for months with no luck.

yea thats the strange thing, i rarely see any bikes from kawasaki. I think they are very popular in the southern area of America, but here in BC they arent as popular even to know they have like 3 warehouses here. still nothing compared to the states. yamahas are very popular here because we have all the rocky mountains and such so we got alot of visiters that are into snowmobiling and from that yamaha moves here to advertise.

On Craigslist all there are, are Hondas and Yamahas...Heck I will even take a Suzuki...But there are none of those either...I'll get one soon...Just need to get over the busted fridge...

twice as many parts...Yes. But when do you ever hear of some one rebuilding the top end of a 4 stroke 2-3 times a year. and if the stock CDI is in place, you can run a 4 stroke at its limiter all day long. They are set at a conservative 2k rpm below max redline.

I run the hell out of my 06 Z400 quad, have umpteen hours on it and it's ridden extremely hard. My C.R. is still above 185, my valves were checked at least 4 times and never had to make an adjustment and I'm still on the factory spark plug. Even after a pipe and jetting it looks "toasty" brown.
It just got it's 2nd set of brake pads and wheel and axle bearings all the way around.

My sons 06 KX100 is on it's 2nd set of top end parts and it was ridden hard for one summer.
A little late but here's my 2 cents

I understand where the original tread was going. I just sold my KDX 200 because it was not only tall for me but heavy too. I'm 5' 8' 145 lbs. I tried Kouba links to lower the bike but I still struggled with the height. It seemed like every time I would stop on the trail to put my foot down the ground was sloping away and I would fall over. Embarassing!

My son has a KX100 and it's a blast to ride with plenty of power. I was thinking of getting another and sending the top end to Eric Gorr to port it a little to get more low end. Even though this little two banger has more low end than other bikes it's size. I could also put a heavier flywheel and FMF pipe on it to help.

But here's my problem. I need to lower the pegs to get more room between the seat and pegs. I can't find anything on the net that will do this. I did buy some IMS pegs that go 1/2 inch lower, but that's not enough. Even with tall seat foam, I would like to get more room.

Any ideas?
