I just purchased a supposed 1995 KX80. It has an engine number of: KX080RE009690

Can anyone tell me if this is correct for that year? I need to replace the cylinder, piston and rings, and want to be sure of what I am ordering! Thanks, --Ed...

Number sounds right, however there are a number of types of KX80 around that time

KX80-R# which is 82cc
KX80-S# which is 79cc
KX80-T# which is 82cc
KX80-V# which is 79cc

79cc engines have numbers beginning KX080SE

82cc engines have numbers beginning KX080RE

The 'V' model does not appear to have a US type VIN frame number, so may not have been available in the US.

I cannot pin down the year, but it will be from a KX80R# or KX80T#which are 82cc models.

The person I got it from said it was a 2007 but I'm not sure that is possible with a kx80 as it only goes till year 2000

Hello , I am new & I am searching the pages here for assistance. I realize that this is a very old post. However I am in need of assistance also. I just purchased a KX 80 said to be a 1995. After decoding the vin, it is a 1990 ! I am wanting to replace & update some items. I am wanting to verify that the engine is also a 1990 as well . Any help is greatly appreciated. The case # is KX080EE057392 Thank You in advance

Can you post pictures of the engine and of the serial number? It will help to identify it.

The best I can tell you is that it is newer than 1994. The first year of production in 1979 they used "AE" in the serial number. By 1994 the serial number had advanced to "SE" but I cannot find any further records and Kawasaki did not necessarily increment the letters at the rate of one per year. Production ended in the year 2000 so we have narrowed it down to 1995-2000 with a greater chance that it is closer to the year 2000 because "WE" is 4 letters apart from "SE".

Before ordering any parts you can always check to see if the part number changed at all between the identified date range.
