hey guys,
I found a KZ1000 rolling chassis (well kinda, it doesn't roll cause the engine, clutch, and brakes are LOCKED) but the frame looks perfect and rebuilding an engine isn't a BIG problem for me as long as I can get the parts.....

so can you guys give me some advice on a frame up build?
I'd like to make it more of a custom instead of a perfect restoration, I'd LOVE to turn it into a stroker/nitrous motor, but that won't come till down the road, right now I'd just like to get it rollin and able to ride it

thanx in advance guys

shouldnt be all that hard. Since you dont want to keep it orig if you did have trouble finding parts you could frankenstein other parts to make it work. the 1000 and the 900s were very similar, interms of engine parts, along with the gpzs. so i dont think finding part will be hard. wiseco might make a stroker kit for it but id have to look. dennis kirk would have it if they do. Some times the hardest parts to find are little rubber grommets or fasteners etc to keep the bike stock but i wouldnt worry about that. if the bike has a clean title, go for it

i was looking through pics of your ram, man you went through that thing. i like the winnie pic, i pulled a motor out of a beetle by lifting the body up, kinda funny.

thats one hell of a setup. 440, 4 link rear, did something go up with the stock motor or just itchy for a project? Ive got a 73 charger for sale if you want a mopar project:)

see there's another problem, I literally found the frame in a garbage heap..... so I don't know how to go about checkin all that ****, the tag is still on it and its clear on the front tube,

the engine looks to be complete, just without carbs and its locked up SOLID, can't get it to kick to save its life, the clutch is frozen and the bike won't roll at all cause its got the shaft drive so I can't just unhook it or cut the tube or chain.....
we can also see visually that the brakes are locked up so there's another reason it won't roll

Thanx on the compliments on the truck, what happened was that I blew the transmission behind the stock V6, I had the NV3500 5spd trans and drove that truck like it was a sportscar, I mean I gave it HELL, PURE HELL. after blowing the trans I found out that I couldn't get a trans to go into it without paying 2500+ so that really wasn't a great option, especially for a power freak like me, so we came across that RV and the guy wanted $600 for the complete drivetrain and all the electronics that operate the engine.... so I JUMPED on that offer. The funny part was that the guy thought it was a 360, and we trusted him so I ordered a bunch of parts to go onto that model 360..... we went to pull the engine and dad started freakin out, I was a VERY HAPPY fatboy, after I pulled the top off the airhat and saw 4 barrels on there and a front distributor, I KNEW it wasn't a small block, its a Big Block...... needless to say there is ALOT of time and money in that truck, but that truck is how I've kept my sanity through the past 2 years.......

that kz seems like alot of work. You could do a title search with the dmv. The motor is gonna have to be torn apart. i didnt know it was shaft drive. is it an 1100? im not up on the 1000s.

That ram took some major work. I didnt think they put small blocks in winnies. I had a 360 in my 68 cornet. this charger has a 318:( but i have to get rid of it. ive got too much stuff and its the last project on my list. its a good running driving car with 70k on it if you know anyone.

as far as the kz if the bike made it to a junk pile that might be what it is. If a title comes back clear then id do something with it. maybe drop a gpz1100 motor in it. or even a 750 turbo in it. Its gonna take alot of time and money unless you frankenstein it with parts off ebay or something. If your looking for a good solid bike id spend $500 and atleast get one thats running. or at the very least rolling.

good luck man

id guess a couple hundred in parts to get the suspension road worthy again. plus some new brake lines and pads. a flush of the brakes. and as long as the rotors are toast. the motor id say atleast 500 plus if its locked up you may need some machine work. The shaft drive system will need some new seals and hopefully the ring/pinion is stripped thats a few hundred in itself. The carbs are another big drain. if you can do all the work id say your looking at 50-100 in parts atleast for the carb and then all the gaskets. It really depends on the condition of everything. bearings a seals for the whole bike get expensive.

so its up to you if its worth 1000-1500 in parts, plus your time plus title hassle. It would be a great project though.

Sounds like a true basket case minus the basket . What year does the frame tag say it is?

tear it down and see whats broke. Hell, it would at least be something interesting to play with if nothing else.
If available, compleate gasket kits can run a little over $100

If it is locked up I'd not recommend trying to run it if you use any upper cylinder lube methods to free the motor on a bike you found. Tear it down and replace almost all the seals and gaskets or it will prolly develope so many leaks you won't believe. Beside, better to know what is broke of anything before it has a major failure with you on the bike.

it says that its a 1979 KZ1000E

yea, it'll get a COMPLETE rebuild if it gets anything.....
I'm just wanting somethin to toy around with any hopefully gain somethin to ride around on to releive some stress sometimes, cause the truck is just gonna be TOO powerful to go on many full throttle romps in... especially on these eastern KY 2-lanes

that and if the bike ends up bein somethin that I can turn into a nice head turner, then I may end up painting it to match the truck and makin it a nice show peice, ya never know

well your a mopar man, you could take an 80s shelby charger motor and shoe it into the bike since you like cramming big motors into things;) that would be a big one for the bike. I wouldnt spend a dime on it until you find a title, You can tear it down though. thats always fun. I used to keep an old 125 two stroke motor in my house for when i got bored. I like puzzles;)
