Hello All;

Newbie here with my first ever bike, a 1983 kawasaki kz440 ltd. It runs great but when i went to wrap the exhaust the H-connection was rusted and broke off. I looked and its common that this entire area gets rusty. I managed to salvage the right exhaust but the left where it snapped has only a 1 inch piece. Anyone have options on how to fix without breaking the bank on a new exhaust? I slid a 1 inch copper pipe onto the small knub and fit perfect and into the middle H connection, is this doable? what about eliminating the H connection completely? is that also an option?

Others have used copper pipe &/or fittings to make the repair there, so you should be fine.
I wouldn't eliminate the cross-over pipe. otherwise, the exhaust system might be a tad restrictive.
On my 81 KZ650-CSR the pipes are a pretty small diameter just before the mufflers, so blocking the cross-over would restrict the air flow quite a bit.
