low speed problem? ZX6R

1566 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Oldash
Bought my first ZX6 this year ..what a sportsbike. Took it on a 3000 mile tour of the twisty hairpins of the Alps the bends just don't stop!! However a low speed glitch developed. When in town it couldn't handle low speeds when the the throttle was only just engaging and would start to jerk along. More worryingly wsa in some of the longer corners, feathering the throttle the power was surging. Once going it was fine. I've changed the oil, plugs and air filter and balanced the carbs but it's still there. If anyone has experienced this I'd appreciate any advice on fixing it. :-?

France rocks! no speed cameras!

Jimbo.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum. I am a little envious...lucky to be riding in the Alps. Where are you from????

I don't have an answer for you on your mechanical problem, but I am confident that you will have an answer before the night is out!!!

We have lots of fun and lots of mechanical expertise up here. Don't be a stranger!!!!!

i also want to welcome you to the forum. i am not sure what would cause a problem like that, but i know it has happened to others. we have quite a few qualified gear heads on here and i am sure someone will point you in the right direction. after all, we wouldn't want to keep you from those Alps for too long !
Tanks for the support Heather and ispeed. Someone's suggested checking the tanks breather pipe, which could be a good place to start as I noticed it was badly twisted when I took the tank off. Failing that am gonna clean the fuel filter.
What a treat leaning it over on some of the Alpine passes especially with a pair of freshly scrubbed in tyres.
Welcome Jimbo! :)

I agree with ispeed about qualified people here that will help you. There's some pretty sharp mechanics here.

Sounds like your making James Bond look tame on the curves. :)
