Greetings everyone
I previously posted a question about an unusual tire wear pattern on the front tire of a Mean Streak is was looking at. I ended up agreeing to buy the bike. I appreciate your replies to my question. I now have another question that has crept into my mind about this machine. When we looked at it, we didn't pay too much attention to the dented tank they seller said occurred from a fall over, as we were so intent on looking for other damage. But now that I get to thinking about it, I remember that there was no emblem on the side of the tank identifying it as a Kawasaki or a Vulcan. It had some kind of graphic decal, but no emblem. Now I'm wondering if all M.S.'s that year had an emblem. Even though the paint matched perfectly, could it be that the bike was involved in an accident prior to the fall over incident and the tank emblem was removed and bondo'ed over and the whole machine repainted. It was painted black with a light tinted metal flake overcoat. Now I'm starting to wonder if M.S.'s were even offered in that color in 02.

Money won't exchange hands for a couple days, so I still would have time to bail out if I found out this bike has been misrepresented to me. Your knowledge of the M.S. may be a life saver for me. Am I getting skinned?

BTW, I was able to negotiate what I thought was a very favorable deal getting the seller to accept $5900 for the machine. Maybe there's a reason he sold so cheap. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

there is only a graphic decal, it should be clearcoated over.
my 2002 meanie was black with a blue pearl.
if there is any way possible ask the seller to let you take it to a dealer to have it checked out. hope this helps.

I bet the owner removed the "Kawasaki" emblem. It's only glued on and easy to remove. A lot of people take them off.

According to Kelly Blue book an 02 Meanie in good condition retails for $7655 and trade in is $5300.

However, you are probably looking at $500 to get new tires installed. The tank is probably another $600 just for the part.

If you do the math, maybe looking around at an undamaged bike is a better option. Your call of course.

Good Luck.

re

if the tank is in question of a repair - go over it with a soft refridgerator
magnet and any fillers will cause the magnet to lose grip
