Is it normal for a 1988 Kawasaki Mojave to start up with 15+ kicks when it's 50-0 degrees. If not what is the normal amount of kicks.

One if it's tuned right however three or four is normal! How is the plug?

The spark plug wasn't the problem at all. I took the valve covers off and discovered the last owner didn't tighten the bolts that keep the intake valves in place. The bike was running with only 20 pounds of compression

That would do it and glad it's running for you! We do a compression check the very first thing in our shop! 8)

20lbs? I can see how that would be causing problems. Glad you found a fix for it.
