When I start my bike in the morning I open the choke and start it up and all, but why does the revs always fluctuate? When riding the first couple of minutes it seems like the engine might die but it never does. Am I due for a maintenence? If so which one? It recently past 30k and I bought the bike a few months ago. I do not know the service records. If anyone can help me figure out my situation it is greatly appreciated.

The easyest thing you could check is the idle. Play with it a little and make sure your bike idles in the right spot. The 2nd thing I could think of is to clean your carbs.

when i start my bike in the morning, 96 zx6e, i put the choke on maybe half way or less, and start it... after a minute of running it jumps to 3k rpms, then after a while higher... if i put choke on all the way in the morning, rpms jump to 7k, is this not normal?

Which motorcycle do you have?

Some things to consider:

1. Spark plugs are fresh / new
2. Possible air leak around carb boots.
3. Water in the tank. Try adding SeaFoam (1 ounce per gallon of gas) you can buy it at Napa Auto Parts.
4. If more than one carb try balancing the carbs. http://www.carbtune.com/
5. Idle RPM depends on what engine you have. Check your manual for idle RPM's
6. Choke is working correctly / may need adjustment, see manaul.
7. Carb/s need rebuilding.

half choke on a sportbike, from what ive noticed is like a quarter throttle. full choke is like almost half throttle. on my 250 that revs to 14k its about 6k on my fizzer that revs to 11.5 its about 5.5.

yeah but its not good if it only climbs when its warm, or if it fluctuates. then it might have a carb problem. also if the bike runs too rich sometimes the idle is slow to rise because theres not enough oxygen iguess.
