There was a recent post regarding starter removal, pretty easy to do. I would take the OEM starter to a starter repair shop and have it rebuilt if it were me.

 

the starter is something like $450 from Kawasaki. Maybe closer to $500. On ebay they're about $120 give or take-just installed one on a friend's 3010 Trans. Worked perfect. How long it lasts is a good question but it works-for now. If you can get the Mule in the air a few feet (a lift is nice)...it can be removed somewhat easily from the bottom, in bettween the engine and gearbox. Kind of tight but it comes out. 4" extension 3/8" drive ratched and a deep 12mm socket is all you'll need. And plenty of patience

 

Our Starter went out and the dealer we went to, put a much better aftermarket unit in there that was cheaper and better than factory. No issues after a year...

 

Cookie Monster is right and has a good fix on another thread. I modified his approach below.

I have a 2004 Mule 3010 and I removed my starter in 5 minutes with a 12mm flex gear wrench. The wrench cost me $8.

I did the same thing as Cookie Monster, but used the ratcheting end of this wrench.

1. Place the ratchet end of the wrench at a 90 degree angle.
2. Put the ratchet end on the bolt, but do not try to turn the bolt with the wrench. You will round the corners if you do.
3. I placed a metal pipe (wood dowel may work) on the ratchet near the bolt and gently tapped it with a hammer from below.
4. The bolt was loose immediately and I backet the bolt out using the ratchet end.

5 minutes? Seriously? If you can do it in 5 minutes, there's a dealer close by more than likely needing help........
