In Quebec, the provincial police have a policy of not engaging pursuit at speeds of over 160km/h ( 100MPH).

Of course if their copter is available then they'll just nab you when you eventually stop.
They have similar rules to this here, unless you're on the highway and one of the SS camaro's spots ya, those things go 160mph+ for a reason.

If they get close enough to see the license plate then its all downhill from there. Plus the state police choppers go nearly 200mph. a few too many of my friend's parents work for the state police, I won't run from them.

I tend to disagree, My uncle is a cop (hates it when i call them that :D) and he took me out for a ride on his crusier, man that thing is slow. I mean I saw him twist the throttle al the way, and we when tpretty slow, he said that it could hit 140 MAYBE. I have a hard time beleiveing a police cruser could go nearly 200, Look at this turbo CBR.

it has 295 horses and with it aerodynamic body work it still can't go faster than 205. If this thing stops there at 295, then a crusier must need like 600 horse to get there. Have fun

Helicopter, not the cruiser, the HD's the cops ride around here will barely do 110 or so.

There are cordless radar detectors available as well. They run on batteries. This way you don't have to wire it to the bike. If you get a good one that's made for motorcycles, they have an ear piece so you can actually hear it beep.

I agree with not using the jammer. Just asking for trouble. If you're going 100+, it doesn't matter what you have. It's obvious to the cop when all he sees go by is a blur.

About radar jamming

About radar jamming don’t know how true this is
But this is what I heard
Two cops were having a slack day with no speeding motorists to book
Decided to see if they could get one of the low flying jets with their radar gun
Boys in sed jet deted the radar as they would like they would a ground to air missile
Decide to do some jamming of their own and fried the plods radar gun
And reported the indecent when they landed
2 cops back at base with a lot to explain

One was heard to say well he was going 700 miles an hour
:D :D

Just FYI, I used to work with a local PD and like the other person posted a Jammer is pointless and will only get you in more trouble even when your not speeding. as far as I know there is know such thing as a laser jammer, that works anyway. even a laser detector is kind of pointless, a laser doesn't bounce off buildings and spread and stuff like radar does therefore the only time a laser detector will go off is if the cop is aiming it at you and it takes about 1/15th of a second for them to get your speed, therefore by the time it goes off, it's too late. Often having the detector will get you a ticket when you may have gotten a warning otherwise. I haven't used a detector since I was in high school, I once pasted a cop going the same direction on the highway as me at 130 (it was dark, i didn't know it was a cop) he pulled me over and gave me a lecture and a warning. Be polite and courtious and I think they are often impressed that you accually pulled over and let you go with a warning. that's just from my experiance.

130 and you stopped? Must've been a really nice cop.

I always ride with a radar detector,I've been riding since before radar was used by cops! I ride way to fast almost always and with the detector NEVER (touch wood!) had a speeding ticket! and (yes sir mr. policeman sir) a laser detector SURE DOES WORK! only if it is aimed at someone in front of you first though! Let me also add theres two very important things to remember with radar/laser detectors #1 if your not going to buy the very best just don't bother buying one at all" and theres only two out there period" IE: Escort 8500 X50,Valantine can't remember the # sorry"other then those you might as well just flush your money down the toilet,it will do about as much good there!! #2 if you do not attach your brain to your radar detector and your throttle hand it is totally worthless! IE: Don't speed unless theres traffic for a cop to aim at first! NEVER travel in the passing lane when speeding EVER! DO NOT pass anything at night your not 100% sure is not a cop!! I could write a list a mile long on do's and don't to using a radar/laser detector, but I think you get my drift? BTW: I'm old" and have a friend who is (older) in his 80s and he runs over 100MPH all most always and got tickets all the way till he was 70,at 70 he bought a Valantine Rader/laser detector and has NEVER got one ticket since!! THEY DO WORK" if you follow the two rules I posted!

Actually a true story that happened in Scotland. Also scared the hell out of the Tornado pilot and navigator.

As for radar detectors, if you are in the UK get something like the Road Angel or one of the similar system that works on GPS and is programmed to warn you where the static speed cameras are and what speed they are at (even recognises the M25 variable speed limit). I think most have a built in radr detector but never buy a radar jammer or laser diffuser, you'll be in court before you know what's going on. I think Road Angel might be too big for a bike but I am sure one model is small enough.

Do they have these in America at all or are you yet to experience the joys of static police cash machines ... ahem I mean "safety cameras"?

re

let me make sure i got these rules right:

1) only speed when theres lots of traffic
2) only speed in the slow lane
3) never make a legal pass on a police officer at night

hmmmm, i think i'll stick with my own rules

my rules would be:

1) ban radar detectors in all 50 states(a few already have)

radar detectors were meant to be an alert to drivers that police were enforcing speed limits
with the use of radar - they were not meant to be used as a tool for drivers to try and
outwit law enforcment so one could intentionally break the law imo

not saying i never speed-i just don't advocate it on public roads unless its done
in a area that is void of traffic and hazards that may injure someone else if something
went wrong - i just prefer the dragstrip for my speed fix and people get to watch me
wax the guy in the other lane too

bikeaholic;Sorry you can't read very well, but thats "OK" everyones intitled to their opinion even if their not understanding what was said! BTW: I've set over 20 National & World Records in my life NOT ALL with motorcycles, how ever I did build the first T/F Dragbike to go 6.99 seconds at over 200MPH back in 1979,Terminal Van Lines supplied the money and Bo Obrocta rode it! So I've been on both sides of the fence as well! and I like them both if you get my drift? (LOL) You have a great day and ride safely my friend!! :)

ya know, in germany on the autobahn, you can pass a cop going just as fast as you can and they can do nothing. unless your on the parts near big cities where there is the "speed limit"
