hi there,
I am a new female rider, just bought my new bike today a 2007 vulcan 900 classic.I live in Alberta Canada.

I am having difficulty figuring out which bags I'd like,I went to the site that shows what all fits on the 900's...and just am not totally happy with what i found.I dont want the bags on all the time,so a quick release /also locking /rigid/hard bag...there isnt much out there to chose from for this bike.So now I'm wondering about throw overs? so day trip I will like to have bags on...how do these stay on the bike?? do you still have to mount them? Also wondering if anyone has used the cargo holders for this model? and if so do they work ok for holding luggage?

thanx

Hi Laura,
Not one of the lady riders, and I rarely venture down this end of the board, but welcome anyway.
Get yourself some saddlebag supports, from memory I think Cobra has some for about the US$120 mark.
Throwovers, actually go under the pillion seat, simple as turning the key throwing the bags over your rear fender, and re-installing your seat.
Supports stop the bags falling into your rear wheel or drivetrain during turns.
I use saddle bags everyday, 'cause I use my bike everyday, and am about to go for some hardbags instead.
Working shiftwork at a hospital, where the clientele are not always pillars of society, I'd just like some bags I can lock and walk away from.
But if you only want to use them on occasion, then I can recommend them.

Just down here, having a look at the gear threads, (Wedding anniversary in May, and my blushing bride of 15 years rides her own now), to scope out a prezzy for the Minister for war and finance.
And If ever I can help a damsel in distress, I am mighty pleased to do so Ma'am.
Cheri, you would be one of the most helpful here, and I take your comments as a great compliment.

Tina, how's the rebuilding of the bike going? Girl, you just impress the heck out of me doing your own wrenching. Keep up the good work.

It's getting there. I swapped the clutch plates (new) from the 650 over to the 750 the other day. Was going great until I broke a bolt off putting the pressure plate back on :frown: Darrell will be home this weekend, and we'll get it out and get that hole covered back up.

I can't believe you call your wife the minister of war and finance! That's funny!

Hello Laura! Welcome to the board!

Like yourself...I dont know much about luggage and kind of confuse on what I am going to get....I just want mine for now and then kind of thing, but dont want to put those metal things hanging from the side of my bike all the time...then I saw Odinseye bags with the brackets to put on and take off and I liked them alot!..and the bags maintain their shapes...anyway, here is the link to that post if it will help you any .....good luck...and take pictures if you do decide.

You're taliking about "Ghostbrackets" or "Ezybrackets" there Tely.
They're a great Idea. Put 'em on, take 'em off easily, lock 'em to the bike, and the docking posts are not particularly noticeable when you take the bags off, I've tossed up getting a pair myself, and ridding myself of the yoke.
Good onyer for remembering them.

do u think those would also work for putting books into and putting them on a Ninja 250?
No.

The bags need support on the bottom to keep them away from the tire, and need to be tied down to those supports to keep them from flying up in the air at speed.

There ARE saddlebags designed for sportbikes, but they are a lot smaller than the big cruisers bags.

Weight is a problem too... books are heavy, and most bags max out at between 10 and 20 pounds.

I have the EZ brackets on my 1600. They come off in seconds and don't leave a support bracket behind for a clean look, just two studs (not noticeable) when bags are off. Another company makes a similar product called "ghost Brackets" that work the same way.
Here's mine with & with out the bags, note the studs that bracket mounts onto.
If you go with the supports for the soft bags then you'll have a "U" shaped bracket hanging down from your fender.

It just happened to be that I came accross that post, when I was in the same situation as Laura...what kind of bags I wanted:confused: .....now more or less I have an idea what to get, but have to save the money ...they are kind of expensive

If you go with throw overs & supports you'll be left with something like this when you remove the bags.

Also, the throw overs can damage the paint where the leather crosses the fender. Good saddle bags can be found for a decent price, just don't go "cheap". Good leather bags with good internal support & stitching should last for years.
Do your research & don't jump at the first set you find. Good luck
