NEWBIE... WARNING... FORMER RICE BOY...

Hey everyone, I just started getting interested in bikes recently. I had to sell my baby (01 Hyundai Tiburon, [email protected], YES A HYUNDAI CAN BE QUICK!) because the insurance was getting too high as I continued to accumulate speeding tickets. Anyways, I'm attracted to the styling and performance of bikes, not to mention the lower insurance. I just wanted to drop by and introduce myself. I've never ridden before, so I was thinking of a 250 as a starter bike. From what I've read thusfar, it seems like the Ninja 250 is a great starter. I look forward to learning alot from everyone here. HAPPY RIDING!

P.S.- I'm a sophomore Mechanical Engineering Major at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Yea, Waco sucks an ass hole, but hey, what can ya do?

Welcome to the forum, with your need for speed I would consider starting with a Ninja 500 so you don't out grow it quite so fast. The 250 is a great starter bike but you will out grow it very quick! 8)
the 250 is great to learn on, but you'd probably be bored in a couple of months, if you lasted that long. The 500R is a good choice, I just took my '01 and did a full jardine exhaust, K&N air intake and rejetted the carbs. That bike has enough get up and go to last you several years.

waco eh?

I'm over here in good 'ol dusty lubbock. If you get a bike we'll have to go meet up sometime and ride. I am in need of some biker road trips.
re

welcome jetedawg :D glad your thinking first before you buy-the 250 is a sweet little bike-but take the saftey course first and you'll see the 250 will become small very fast.
i would shoot for something a tad bit larger, just make sure its a kawi  i can't rag ya drivin a tibby-my girlfriend has a 02 with cold air intake and exhaust and it is fun to drive but
if want QUICK come jump in the T/A with me 390rwhp,405lb torque, you can't even lean forward in the seat

I agree, the 250R will grow small really quick. Go for the 500 like my friend and I did. No bike experience prior to buying it for me and I absolutely love it. In fact, I went out to a closed down air force base and got it up to 110 mph a few times on the runways. Would have gone even faster had the wind not been blowing. That's another thing I've read about the 250R, the wind just blows it around because it is so light.
i've just started riding recently, and i started with an older 600R. i've heard the newer 500's are almost just as quick because they are so much lighter. if you have a general tendancy to be aggressive and learn things quickly, i think you'd be better suited with the 500 or 600R, imo. whatever you get it will be fun
tkenn, i think you bummed a three year old thread...
I love it when this happens. LOL

I never even look at the dates, so when one of these older threads gets revived, it takes me a while to catch on.

Go for the 500...I think if i would of got the 250 to start on I would of sold it a week later. But I pick up on things pretty fast...it all depends on the rider as to when they can go bigger.

:edit

mother of god...this is one old thread lol
ahahahah ... this is funny stuff.

14.2 is fast? My skateboard is faster.

:)

glad I read the forums upside down so I got the heads up that this is old.
What makes a speed racer think that going from a car to a motorcycle will slow him down and make him get fewer tickets? No wonder we haven't heard from the guy in 3 years.
