A neighbor/riding buddy has relatives coming from Sweden this Spring. The two are planning on purchasing either the Nomad or the V2K and have them shipped back to Sweden (still cheaper than buying them there, apparently). He was asking on their behalf:

Which one should they get, the Nomad 1600 or the V2K? I gave him all the pat answers involving the "usual" parameters (type of riding; size of riders; bike features vs. power/torque of each, etc etc etc). Thought I would ask in a thread for the V2K folks to share some of the likes/dislikes of the V2K, V2K Classic and the V2KLT. I can provide him with the Nomad info.

Anyone out there ridden both or better yet, owned both and have an opinion comparing both? I'll pass on the info to my neighbor/riding buddy.

Sure appreciate it,
Daryl:cool:

Motor aside the Nomad has a lot of added stuff while the V2K has a lot of added motor
I think it really depends on what type of riding they are going to do

i like my Nomad because I wanted hard bags and I like to travel, long one day rides and long weekends and week long trips, so the Nomad fits with the type of riding I do. If I had go w/ the V2k I would have had to add bags and such. Even if I went V2kLT I would not have had hard bags and I wanted hard bags. That is why i picked the Nomad

Good Luck, BOTH are great bikes

What I always tell people who are looking into purchasing a bike is that they need to sit on them and find out which one is more comfortable to them. They won't want to ride it if it's not comfortable. They are both great bikes, and both can be modded to have the add ons they want, but you can't change the frame length.

You won't be able to answer their questions. They'll need to sit on them.

I've had both and currently have an '06 V2K classic. The Nomad is a better deal across the board as the V2K doesn't give you enough to justify the extra cost. The Nomad is decked out and a great ride. I went to the V2K because I just "had to try one". To do all over, I'd keep the Nomad. Just my .02

Both are awesome rides, I just like the most power possible. My v2k is the first v I have ever owned and wouldnt trade it for the world. I prefer the soft bags too, I just put on a luggage rack and trunk bag if I need to stow a helmet!

i owned a 04 V2K from new , the V2K is possibly the best cruiser on the market "but its a big beast" a great motorcycle . i recently purchased a 08 VN1600 Classic , this time around as it has a very sweet engine & offers all the qualities of the V2K only @ a more decent price $$ . i also prefer the engine sound of my VN1600 Classic with Cobras fitted , than my previous V2K "IMO" . when i consider my next Vulcan in the distant future , the Nomad will be again on my short list ..

If they want hardbags and a shield, Nomad is the only way to go unless they want to spend upwards of $1000.

If soft bags and a shield are cool, and the soft bags don't have to be very big, then the V2K-LT would be sweet.

I've never had a Nomad but the V2K is the ULTIMATE cruiser as far as I'm concerned. You can go any route you want with them, speedster, cruiser, twistie killer....whatever,.... you do just have to add whatever it is you're looking for.

That's why I bought a V2K Classic instead of an LT. That way I got to set it up the way I wanted (although I did end up putting an LT windshield on it due to limited aftermarket choices)

Bagger pipes. I've seen a V2K that someone had baggers fabricated for. It looked hella sweet. That's what I want. I like the symmetry of hard bags with a pipe under each.
Or an alternative?

A few months ago, one of the guys in my club was joking about his Harley's pathetic stock horn. He said he was going to convert the exhaust into a 2-1, thus eliminating the pipe under the left bag... then snag an air horn from one of the trucks at work and stick the compressor in the bag above it

Unfortunately, ya can't answer that question. It's like askin, which ice cream they should get, chocolate or vanilla? Depends on what they like & want. Both are great bikes but they are different!

If bikes there are that much more expensive, maybe they should buy one of each, ship them both home & then sell whichever they decide on for a profit!  8)
