i had an interesting epxperience yesterday. i changed the oil in my "new" 94 vulcan 500 and was suprised by a black, thin, reeking of gas substance that i can only assume was oil at some long distant point. any ideas why i would apparently have so much gas in my oil to thin it out so much? it was so thin that the oil literally spewed out of the oil pan as opposed to the usual slow even drain.

Don't know if this would be the result of oil simply degrading over time or some sign that fuel is somehow getting into the oil.

If the bike is running I would simply change the oil and filter and ride it for a hundred miles or so and then change it again to see what it looks like, if it looks ok then go for progressively longer periods between oil changes.

If however you suspect gaz is still getting into the oil we'll have to look further.
