i have 03 bayou 250 with some problems. one of them is that there is oil leaking out of where the exhaust pipe bolts up to the head. does this mean oil is slipping past somthing to escape out the exhaust? it just burns off but i was wondering if that is a telltale sign of somthing bigger...:|

It is a very inexpensive fix. The valve guides are fitted with O-rings at the bottom to keep oil from drooling out around the guide itself. What is likely happening is the oil is sliding out the exhaust port from a leaking guide seal on the exhaust valve guide.

Take a look at the parts diagram for the head on Kawasaki.com and you will see what I am describing.

It is the kind of fix you can do yourself if you pick up the service and repair manual and have a reasonable supply of tools. It does require removing the head, and a few dollars for gaskets, etc. I also replace the guides when this happens, they are only around $15 each.
