For those of that change your own oil, what do you use to pull the oil screen out the side drain hole. My fingers are large and it took me almost 15 minutes to get the screen out with my pinkie once I had removed the plug. There is so little space between the opening and the frame that you can't get any kind of straight tool in there and I don't want to damage the screen by sticking a bent coat hanger or something similar in the opening.

Thanks

I had the same problem actually. The screen was too far in for me to reach even with my skinny fingers. I found that an allen wrench can fit nicely in there. It has the bend to get in between the frame and the engine case.

From my personal experience yours may be the exception. On both the 800 and 1500 I had and on a friend's 900 there was stuff in the screen the first and sometimes the 2nd oil change, then nothing after that.

I checked mine at 600 and 2995 miles and found nothing. I will check it
one more time at 6000 miles and I doubt I will bother with it again.

A guy at work rides a 900 and he found nothing in his. Last he told me he
has about 10,000 miles on his bike.

Mine came out with no problem. I just pulled it out.

I use that opening to drain the oil every time. I figure if something starts wearing out I may get a heads-up a little sooner. Just me being anal about it I guess. Did find gasket material the first time but nothing since.

At least on the Nomads......you get more of the old oil out by changing it that way. I change mine from the oil screen opening every time.

Can someone explain where I can find this screen on a 1500 Nomad? Thanks!
While on the side stand, look just behind where the kick stand attaches to the frame. You will see it just behind the frame on the engine block. It has a bolt head but the whole plug is about the size of a .50 cent piece. Hope this helps.
