Hi, does anyone know what this problem is - after turning the bike off I noticed a smell of petrol. After taking a look around the engine there was petrol dripping out the back the carbs (the side it leans on the stand) and filling the overflow box between the carbs and the airbox. When I dissconected the fuel pipe from the tank petrol was dripping from the on/prime/res switch. I thought this only let fuel through when the engine is on. Can anyone help me on this please.

There is a diaphram in the petcock assembly that is probably torn or ruptured. Disassemble and replace, and check your oil because you might have gas in it.

Hello, thanks for your reply. Been to the garage for advice and they said the switches sometime leak where the brass pipe comes out of the ali body. As the switch was stiff to turn before it leaked I think I'll replace the washers and that diaphram you mentioned first.

You most likely have either a leak in the diaphragm or possibly a modified petcock that is no longer vacuum assisted. If it was modified however, there would be a position (Normally where the PRI position used to be) that would stop the flow of fuel. If your airbox is filling up with fuel the chances of it simply being a line that fell out of the Petcock is near zero. Be very careful, and before you start your bike next remove all of the spark plugs and turn the bike over a few times to make sure any and all fuel that may have made its way into the combustion chamber is removed.
