We have Progressive for our bikes (not our cars, though). My husband did a lot of checking around to get the combination of the best rate and the best coverage. I don't know what we pay, but I know that our rate actually went down last year.

Alan had an accident that totaled his bike a few months ago, and Progressive was really excellent when it came to settling the claim. We couldn't have asked for better service. So not getting a discount because of the MSF doesn't really matter all that much to us, if indeed that's true. Unless something happens to make us think less of Progressive, we'll stay with them.

I've heard really bad things about Geiko not settling claims, so even if I got a good quote from them, I don't think I'd go that route. I know the amount they quoted Alan was higher than Progressive's rate, anyway. Heck, we even tried to go through AARP to get a senior rate. They were higher, too.

Yep, I think you'll hear nightmare stories and good stories about every insurance company, eventually. I think it has a lot more to do with the agent than with the company itself. If you have a good agent, it's less important which company it is.

I went all around and talked to a lot of people. My boss has progressive, and I was about to go with them until one guy at the dealership told me to check with AAA, and gave me a name of someone to talk to. With a ticket and an accident they were less by a couple hundred a year. In fact they got me full coverage for $500, which is insanely low compared to all the other places I went.
