Well, I've been riding for 15 years or so, mostly sport bikes, but have always admired the VN800's. So right before Christmas I bought one :-D. Found a pretty good deal on a 98 classic, love the fat front tire, for $2k and it already had V&H Drag pipes on it. Looks like it will make a perfect foundation for a bobber project. Hopefully as I start this, I can use this thread to ask questions and get suggestions from you guys that have inspired me to bob my 800. Stay tuned for pics

I think you should paint it brown, with green and yellow flames...just kidding, will keep an eye out for the pics. FYI: post pics in another place like facebook or photobucket then copy the URL address for them, then on your post click the insert image icon and paste the address in it. This will allow your pics to come up with the post and not as an attachment. Plus they will only let you have 4 attachments...will keep my eyes open on this thread.

I actually thought of "saki bomb" too and my wife said, "It's a bobber right? Why not Saki Bob?" I figure if I give credit where its due, maybe she will "allow" me more time in the garage...

I watched a few solo seats on EvilBay untill I settled on one I liked an scored a good deal on a La Rosa Designs from City Choppers. Got it with in a few days and now just have to figure how to mount the back end. I wet sanded the tank to give it a bit more of an aged look then mocked up the seat and heres where she sits now:

Seems like a lot of guys here that have the skinny front tire A model have gone with apes for bars. I think I might go the other direction with my fat B model and throw on some low drag bars and see how it looks. Picked up a rear fender today at a trailer supply house and will try to trim it up and get it mounted this wknd.

Looking good greedy. I like those larosa seats. I've always preferred drag bars over apes. On mine i'm just going to cut up the stock bars and make a set of my own with the help of another member on here.

Here is a question for you VN800 experts. I plan to keep the stock rear fender and supports for those times when my bitter half wants to go for a ride with me. Since I will have a side mounted tail light and license plate, I want to fill in and smooth the holes in the fender where those things were mounted (eg, IMB4U ). Here's where the question comes in, I've noticed some rear fenders are set up differently. Below is a pic of Zero's 98 Classic when he first got it, notice the tail light mounted higher than the plate.

Now my 98 Classic had the tail mounted right in the middle with the plate just above it? whats with that?

Any how rather than just the 3 small holes to fill like Zero did, my fender has a rather large indent right behind where the tail light mounts. I'll put up a pic of my bare fender tonight

Here's the new drag bars, I love the new more aggressive grip position. My throttle and clutch cables seem a bit long now though, any suggestions? Shorten or re-route?
