Well I've looked and I can't seem to find this topic. I've always had radar detectors in my cars since I first learned how to drive. Consequently, my speedy butt has never had a ticket. I was thinking about putting one in the fairing of my bike. Has anyone else done this, and do they have any advice for wiring it?? Of course maybe this is just a nut case idea. They've kind of become my security blanky in a way, and we live in college town with police that don't like young people, streetbikes, or especially young people ON streetbikes!

how well do they work? cos surely if they warn you once someone is pointing a radar trap at you you dont really have time to break, and if you break hard purely on the advice of a light on your dashboard you could cause some mjr accidents. I mean do they give you much pre warning?

Actually, they work good. The one I run in my car alerts me before I can ever see the cop and before the cop can see me, generally never less than 1/4 mile away, and as much as 1/2 mile away. They don't have to be aiming at you for it work. The cop just has to be running radar or laser within those distance parameters and the detector will alert you. Very handy. Like I said before, I've probably saved my self an ungodly amount of money in tickets over the past decade!

Radar detectors piss me off!! I had a fairly expensive one once and got a ticket less than a month after purchasing. They don't help when the cop is sitting there in the dark waiting for you and then turns on the radar after you've passed him!

run a pair of wires back to the battery/fusebox and have the radar detector hooked up to an ignition fuse, this way it'll turn on when you turn the bike on and turn back off when you turn it off. Also helpful if you do get pulled over, if you have the detector out of sight where a officer wouldn't normally look for one.

usually cops dont leave a radar gun on all the time, so they turn it on, then off and switch it so detectors dont work so when he turns it on, your already in his sights. i dont use them. speed in certain spots and d0ont speed around corners and where a cop could be.(speed traps)

I have a radar in my car and i did get pulled over with it a few times. Every time i have thrown it on the floor and turned it off before the cop saw it I was able to talk my way out of the ticket. After a cop got me another time, he turned his radar off so my detector stopped making noise. I forgot to take it off the window and needless to say got a ticket. I was also considering wiring one onto my bike but if you do get pulled over, there is really no where to throw it to get it out of sight fast. I decided not to do it mainly because you wont be able to hear crap when it does go off due to wind noise unless you wired a small speaker under your helmet. That would just be a little too much and a little too annoying for me.
