Hey fellas,

I finally received my new license plate and have mounted it on the stock plastic fender and basically it looks horrible.

I've seen Cobra's $210 fix, but geesh...I don't wanna have to pay $210 just to clean up that rear end. Does anyone know of any cheaper fender eliminator kits? I basically just want that cool Cobra look without paying 2 bills for it. If I can't find it I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet.

Thanks in advance! Send pictures if you can.

Not sure which bike you have but on my Mean Streak I just mounted the plate up closer to the guard then sawed off what hung below.
Need to source a LED license plate light.
Was thinking of the small ones that look like crome bolts and attach a couple to the numberplate

Your bike looks good! I have the same Mean Streak you have...Same color and everything.

I may have to take a look at doing what you did with your license tag as that'll save me from spending $200 bucks on a tag relocator kit.

Thanks!

For the license plate, I found a vertical side-mount bracket on ebay for about $40. It was brushed stainless so I had a local guy polish it up purty. After some tinkering, I mounted it to the left side of the swing arm and purchased a lighted plate bracket (incandescent, no LED) for about $30. Then I routed a wire along the swingarm and connected in to the speedo light wire behind the left side cover on my 800. Don't use the open accessory leads, they're on all the time even with the key off. Looks nice and cleaned off that ugly plate holder on the fender. Soon it'll be a run/turn/brake controller and large silver bullets for the stock rear signals and that will allow me to remove the taillight completely without much decrease in visibility. However, I need the money to refinish/paint the fenders and tank before that happens.

I bit the bullit and bought the cobra, install is really easy, it eliminates the old frame completly and gives you a billit finish around the rim of the fender, blinkers and billit frame. Just need to find a way to put a light for the plate. With the plate up high like that you see all meanie tire back their, im happy just a little lighter in the pocket.

Did you sortout your relocator issue. I made a small plate for the numberplate that fits directly under the mudguard and removed all plastic parts that comes standard to mount the indicators, etc. no cutting required. Relocated the back indicators through the back fender struts.

Let me know and I will post some details pics.

Enjoy!!

After taking a hard look at the stock setup I have decided to just move the tag up a bit using the stock fender. I'm just going to remove the tag braket (2 screws) and then move it up to where the red reflector is. I think that'll give me the look that I want without having to spend $200 and without losing the tag light...I don't hate the way it looks, I just think it'll look a bit better mounted a little higher on the rear fender. I'll post pictures when I'm done.
