So who has done the turn signal strip on the back of their bike? I am looking to do this and move the plate over to the side mount. Wondering how the brightness is and maybe where you got them.

Anyone tried these, Radiantz sells these or something different?

Also comment on the length you went with if you did this. Thanks.

Well any of these stick on lights should work. I don't need the brake light portion becuse the custom already has the fender mounted light that won't be going anywhere. I guess I could use it in addition if it can cycle between just lit up, and brighter when on the brake and tie into the existing brake light which I am keeping. But I think I need more than just three LEDs for a turn signal. Want people to see them.

I replied to your email. The strip I have is made my Radiantz. I decided to do just a running/brake light strip because I'm going to move turn signals out with the use of Bullet lights.

I am really interested in this thread too.

I posted a message on the customdynamics.com forum to find out if they had an array like the one anglaim mentioned. Below is the correspondence:

I see that the Mean Streak has a custom-made turn signal array here:

Kawasaki Mean Streak Parts & Accessories

What I'm looking for is the same thing but for the VN 900.

I would also like information on what all I would need to make this work (only as replacements for the stock turn signals I plan to be removing entirely).

It looks like I need a load equalizer and the Eclipze module for higher intensity. I'm not too sure on how all this is wired into my existing electrical system.

Thank you.
Hi, sorry we do not have one for the VN900.
Thanks Dave
Well there you have it, short and... well short.

No mention of if the MS array can be made to work, or possible alternatives or even if they are planning to come out with one for the 900,whatever.

Jack030

Can you configure the strip you have to be blinkers?

How much does the whole setup cost?

Do you have a link to the exact thing you got?

Is it very visible in the daylight?

This is what you want. Link. It runs around $70 depending on length. You can even make it a running light/brake light/turn signals. The have additional options too with the integratorz. Don't know why you would want to mess with custom dynamics at $219 when you can go this route. Jack confirmed that it is as bright as it looks.

Yep, that is the link you want.

I purchased mine directly from Radiantz. They now have a smoked tube available now as well. I originally had a clear tube as smoke wasn't available. I have since upgraded to the smoke tube.

Also note that the setup I purchased is the 1mm spacing. I think there's more that 70+ LEDs in my array!

I bought a pair of the short strips like they show in the link you posted in the original post, but they weren't bright enough during the day to make me feel safe. They're fine at night, but I don't ride that much after dark.

I ended up mounting them on the center of my handlebars to use as directional indicators so I'd know if I left a blinker going.

I have thought about that... I heard they (LEDs) are not very visible in the daylight.

It gave me pause but honestly... I don't think it matters to me a ton if people see my blinkers from behind. I need them to be seen from the front. As long as they see my break light, that's the main thing to me as far as what the folks behind me see.

I have been looking at these also. What I am wanting is just a set that is turn signals only. The few that I have seen are brake light or brake light and turn signal. The ones by Radiantz seem to be brake light only. Does anyone know of a turn signal only brand?

I assume it just depends what wires you hook them to. What I'm a little foggy on is; how exactly do you wire in the load equalizer and where do you mount the load equalizer.

Guess I'll be sending an email off to Radiantz soon.

Spoke with a sales rep at Radiantz today. He said that you can order the Turns and Brake Flexible array and when you fill out the order form, where it asks for the length of the brake light, just leave it at 0. So you can go with right turn signal at 3in, brake at 0, and left turn signal at 3in. Send off the order form and follow up with a phone call. He also said you will need a load equalizer, they just don't sale them. So I know what my next project will be when I get the chance.

Hey gillisfire20, I just talked to Ryan @ Radiantz today too.

I got a bit longer strip than jack030 has. This is 14 segments or 8.4 inches, the one I got is 20 segments or 12 inches. I wanted a longer one so that it could be seen a bit more from the sides of the bike.

I got each blinker at 4.5 inches and the center break light at 3.6 inches. (I decided to have a break light section). It's about $75 for this setup and will take a couple weeks to get it to me.

You're right that they don't make the load equalizers but they referred me to www.badlandsmotorcycleproducts.com

I guess they work with them often. Looking around the site I'm disappointed a bit by the prices. I thought this was going to be a < $100 mod but it's not looking like it. Closer to $200 actually.

I'm not sure what load equalizer I need so I guess I have some more research ahead of me.

I believe I spoke with Ryan also. I am going to go with two 4 inch turn signals and no brake lite, so the total lenght with ends will be 9 inches.

Ryan also referred me to badlands for the load equalizer. I believe the one needed for this set up is: MFP-01 METRIC FLASH PRO $49.95.

I am going to look around to see if I can find a better price, but I believe this is what is needed for the set up we are looking at. Also looking for a good deal on a side mount verticle license plate bracket. I just want to clean up all that ugly plastic Kawi likes to put back there.

I like this guys stuff. I think I am going to buy one.

Ebay

That load balancer just about priced me out of this upgrade. Have an idea of taking out all that plastic on the back and using a couple of pieces of angle iron to mount each of the existing lights on. Will prob cut some soon, drill them, coat them black, and mount them up and see what they look like.

Not to get sidetracked on this thread but... there are some cheap licence plate mounts out there, like this one:
Side Mount License Plate / Light Mount, 3/4" Axle Mount, Stainless Steel - SUPER SALE / CLOSEOUTS - White’s Pit Stop

There is also this one here:
Road 6 Customs » Vertical Side Mount License Plate Bracket

I think this is the one ill be getting. I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to fit the side mount on when i have my saddlebags on, so its kinda proof of concept thing.

Edit

Looks like you found the one I ordered last night for $6 cheaper. :(

Some random info I found regarding these questions:

3) Will I need to add a Load Equalizer if I convert to LEDs?

Maybe. Your tail light/brake light is not load dependent so converting this to an LED tail light will NOT require the addition of a load equalizer. However, if you are replacing your stock turn signals with LEDs, you may need a load equalizer. If you are adding LEDs but leaving your stock turn signals you will not need a load equalizer. If you are replacing either your front or rear turn signal with LEDs you will most likely notice that your turns signal will flash faster and therefore need a load equalizer or to replace your flasher with a non-load dependent flasher.

You will not need a load equalizer if you are installing LED Accent Lights.

4) Why do LEDs turn signals require the addition of a load equalizer or a non-load dependant flasher?

The turn signal unit or flasher is load dependent, it needs a certain amount of current to function. Many bikes are designed to flash at a faster rate if a bulb is burned out. Since LEDs draw much less current, your flasher unit may act as if a bulb is out and flash at the faster rate. If you replace either the front or the rear turn signals with LEDs, you will typically need to add a load equalizer. If you replace both front and rear with LEDS, you will typically need 2 load equalizers. Many bikes have a 2 or 3 wire flasher that can be replaced with our non-load dependent flashers, these flashers are not self canceling but replaces the need for a load equalizer.

5) Is there a no load, no heat alternative to a

I'm sure that the badlands load Eq rigs are nice but they just cost too much $$$

I decided to go with this unit:

Dual Load Equalizer Module

and it looks like you need one of these for the VN900

Küryakyn® Diode Kit

For future reference all that is needed for turn signal upgrades is the use of an electronice flasher.

These flasher units are non load dependent and aren't that expensive. I believe I have seen them for $8.99.

It's currently what I'm using as it was sent along with my Clear Alternatives Tail Light. I've seen them available here at this site as well.Super Bright LEDs - Brake Light, Turn Light and Tail Light Bulbs
