Here's the official Red Lodge MT 2010- East Coast Contingent thread.

This message will contain route and lodging information for the East Coast Riders heading to Red Lodge in July. Updates will be maintained in this posting.

Ride Itineraries:
Proposed route: Assumed specific hotels so that I could map it out. Hotels can change.

Saturday - July 3 Shorter day since everyone needs to meet up from different states. Assumed a stay at the Comfort Inn. 365 miles from Edison, NJ.

Sunday - July 4 462 miles

Monday - July 5 471 miles

Tuesday - July 6 420 miles

Wednesday - July 7 209 miles. This will give us time to ride Iron Mountain Road, see Mt. Rushmore, ride through Sturgis and possibly time to stop in Sundance if it's worth it.

Thursday - July 8 302 miles

Lodging:
Still TBD. Possible lodging in proposed routes. I chose these since they got high ratings for cleanliness etc. We will see how we feel on the road and decide when to stop.

If you can do some alternate planning I would, there is no way I would stay the night in Gary. Maybe if I knew someone there and could park our bikes in his garage while we were there, but no way would I park a motorcycle at a motel/hotel. Either push yourself and make some miles that day or cut is about 100 short.

I guess Hammond, IN is not a good place to be? Can you elaborate please?

In the ealry 90's Gary/Hammond area was rough, to say the least, with further economic downturn of the area it has gotten worse, to the point that if I were trucking again I would rather spend the night at Hunt's Point Meat Market in New York City than to spend the day in that area. That is just my opinion of course but,, no way would I take a woman there without armed escorts.
Dropping south of there and coming across I70 would add about 200 miles to the trip, and still put you up into Sturgis area if you wish.
To not alter your route you may consider looking at your mileage for the day and add about 100 to it, get farther past Chicago/Gary/Hammond area.
I'm sure someone else will chime in shortly and tell us all that I'm full of crap about this, but even though I carry(legally) I still aint staying there.

Debbie- As we get closer maybe we can look at doing 50 miles more the 1st day so we don't have to do an almost 500 mile day to get past Gary?

Good idea. I am still working out the route. If you want to take a "stab" at it, feel free. I just did these to have a starting point. But you know me, I probably can't resist working on it.

Ft. Wayne is good town, lots of safe areas,,, I presume you'll be going through on US30?
